Located in the southeastern Rajasthan, it is enveloped by Chambal River on its south and Banas River in its north. With an area spanning 392 km², this reserve is home to a number of wild animals. The major attraction of the place is its wildlife exposure. The 400 sq.km park, between Vindhya and Aravalli range is the home to tigers like Machali (T-16), Sundari (T-17).

The Ranthambore fort, adjacent to the jungle, was a gift from Mughal Emperor in 1754 AD. This was known for a private hunting preserve during that period.

Wildlife safari


The Ranthambore National park is the core territory of wildlife. The core park can be explored from morning 6.30 to afternoon 14.30 through gypsy cars.


Bird watching


The wildlife sanctuary and its adjacent hill-foot is a gathering spot of above 270 species of birds. During winter, migratory birds flutter to this place and make it a chirping spot.


Exploring the heritage


The Ranthambore fort is the major heritage site. This is indeed an architectural wonder. The entire forest is seen from the fort-top. Padam Talao, the biggest lake of the forest, can be viewed from here. The historic Kandhar Fort is just 50 km from Ranthambore.


River Safari


You can also enjoy the water safari along with bird watching on Mansarovar and Surwal lakes.

Ranthambore can be easily reached by all means of transport systems.


It will be a great adventure if you are willing to drive from Delhi or Jaipur. The mesmerising natural beauty of Ranthambore is just 130 km from Jaipur, 114 km from Kota, 365 km from Delhi and 450 km from Jodhpur. The nearest town, Sawai Madhopur, is also connected with bus services.


However, the closest airport is Jaipur airport which is only 160 Km from Ranthambore.


The place can also be reached by Indian railways. The nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur Railway station.
